How to respond for success
Ensure your CV was of high standard by working on the structure and the detail. I personally attended CV Clinics held by Warwick Finance Society, where a third-year student gave me one-to-one help on my CV.
Expect around a 1-2 day wait before advancing to the next stage.
HireVue
This consisted of a series of questions that took 15-20 minutes in total.

How to respond for success
Make sure to have answers prepared beforehand for these questions and similar ones, i.e. ‘Tell us a recent news story that will impact the industry and why it interests you’. Also prepare answers to competency questions, e.g. ‘Tell us about a time you led a project’ or ‘Tell us a time you worked in a team to achieve a specific goal’
Expect up to a 1 month wait before receiving an offer.

Assessment Centre
*Please note this Assessment Centre took place after the spring internship in an attempt to convert my role into a summer internship!*
You will undertake 3 interviews assessing competencies, technical knowledge, commercial awareness, as well as brain-teaser questions.
Example
- Tell me about a time where you used quantitative and qualitative skills to complete a project?
- Tell me about a concept in investment banking that you are knowledgeable on?
- Why do we discount cash flows in a DCF?
- Talk to me about the recent trends in Consumer & Retail? (interviewer was a Vice President in this sector)
- As a business owner, how would you rather achieve an increase in profits: increasing price or volume of sales?
How to respond for success
- How to make answers stand out:
- Use quantifiable results for competency questions, e.g. ‘I achieved a profit of £…’
- Refer to specific examples in commercial awareness questions, e.g. specific M&A deals.
- Keep answers brief and concise where possible; avoid waffling and going off on a tangent.
- General advice:
- Revise technical knowledge using IB Questions online and in various financial textbooks.
- Use sources such as the Financial Times to improve commercial awareness.
- Use mock interviews to improve interview technique and boost your confidence - Corpfit will help.
- Additional points:
- Dress appropriately for the interview; I wore formal clothing.
- Make sure your background and lighting is clear.
- Ensure your internet connection is solid; it also never hurts to join the interview 10-15 minutes before
